New labour code would result in salary drop, say opposition Socialists

The government's planned changes to the labour code would entail a significant decrease in salaries as a result of cuts in premiums for extra shifts, a senior member of the main opposition Socialist Party told a press conference on Thursday.

The concept includes cutting the premium payment for overnight shifts to 15 percent over normal pay from the current 50 percent and payment for afternoon shifts is not even mentioned in the draft, national board member Imre Komjathi said.

As a result, employees working in varied shifts could lose over 20,000 forints (EUR 74) from their paycheck per month, he said.

Komjathi said his party encouraged employees facing negative effects of the planned changes to grab every possible opportunity to express their concerns and to turn to their local representatives and complain that the planned labour code changes go against the government's earlier promises.
