Was Owner of Yet Another Government Critical News Portal Monitored with Judit Varga's Permission?
Justice Minister Judit Varga authorised secret surveillance in almost 5 cases per day until mid-July this year, therefore, we want to know how the owner of a news portal critical of the government came to be among those affected. All indications are that the Pegasus spy software was also running on Zoltán Páva's phone this spring. To clarify these issues, I requested an appointment with the Minister one and half months ago, but I have not received any reply from her.

It is now a fact that the government has the Pegasus spyware. There is evidence that Hungarian journalists, lawyers and media owners have been monitored by someone using the spyware. The question is: was this done legally with the permission of the government, or were Hungarian citizens monitored by others using secret service methods?

The government is not coming out in the open, reinforcing the view that this is yet another attack on press freedom, which is a way of intimidating journalists. We want to know whether the Minister of Justice has given permission to monitor other journalists and opposition politicians.

That is why the government must come clean! If they have not broken the law, they should not remain silent and secretive. If they do not clarify the questions raised, then in 2022 at the latest, after the change of government, MSZP will reveal the details of the Pegasus –case.
